New Project

I’m excited to be starting a new project: helping a family update their truly period early-80’s home.  While much of the work is simply cosmetic, the master bath, complete with sunken tiled tub, is going to get a complete face lift.  The challenge will be to make updates that are still in harmony with the North Bay regional feel of the home and make for modern living.

Construction Update

After some fitful starts and stops I’m happy to report progress being made on this kitchen renovation in Soma.  Counters going in this Friday and then the backsplash.  Can’t wait for the big reveal.

Year in Review

2017 is off and I’m excited about projects already underway.  I’m also still excited about all of the fun projects I had in 2016 – from kitchens and baths to landscapes, and lots in between.  I’ve pulled images from a few of them here.

Have you been thinking about updating your kitchen?  Renovating a bathroom?  Let me know!

Best wishes for the new year!

What goes around…

…comes around!  This makes me want to have a sunken conversation pit.  And it’s a pretty fantastic example of “revival” Brutalism too.

Check out this amazing interior from Bluarch .

Finishing Touches

At some point during or after I complete the bulk of a design project with a client, finishing touches need to be added.  In this case, the clients had some fun prints and  posters they wanted framed for their new spaces.  And one isn’t just any poster – it’s an original Broadway bill for Hamilton – complete with the signatures of all the cast!

I had a great time going through all the framing options including some reclaimed rustic wood frames complete with knots and nail holes.  Everything will be ready for Christmas, but in the meantime here are some snaps from the framing process…

Sunset Kitchen

Every home I encounter in San Francisco, old or new, has a bit of a story, and this tiny kitchen in the Sunset has plenty! With the hidden (wood) ironing board, a spice nook only large enough for salt, and the original oven that has seen plenty of meals, it has been well loved but in need of a new chapter.  I proposed a number of schematics, and the final redesign, which opens the kitchen to the dining room, will honor those stories and still bring it up to date.  The design is compact, functional and has tons more storage – and top of the clients’ list – includes a dishwasher!  We’re almost ready to start construction – so more photos to come…

Castro Bath

How do you talk about a bathroom “before and after” remodel when there was no “before”?

In this typical San Francisco Edwardian flat, the client wanted to add a second bathroom (complete with shower!), where only two small closets existed. By taking a little room from a landing and a little room from a bedroom alcove, we carved out a full bath, brightened by a new skylight, textural tiles from #porcelanosa_en, fittings from #hansgroheusa, and bath furniture from #duravit.

Success!
