Color and Fabric

I’ve been working with some clients in “Planet Heights” in San Francisco to update their living room furniture.  Most of the pieces have arrived, but we decided they needed some more accent pillows.  The three swatches at the top are the sofa and chairs – the bottom swatches are ideas for the pillows…  Wonder what they’ll like?

Color Trends

I’m usually pretty skeptical of color forecasts, but the Editor at Large pulled together several different forecasts into one post, and there seems to be some consistency.

Let’s see if my clients bite…

Meanwhile in Oakland…

What started as a quick master bedroom/bathroom renovation for a couple’s new home, has had all kinds of fun additional updates:  reconfiguring the kitchen cabinets for new appliances, new hardwood floors, new entertainment center, new carpet, new paint, all new lighting fixtures, and updating the three other bathrooms!  What fun but what a whirlwind.

The new master bedroom, shown below, was an in-law unit – perfectly sized for a master suite.  So out went the kitchenette and in goes the new layout.  Work is progressing furiously for a November 21st move-in.

TV Cabinet

Many (if not all) of my clients want to hide their tv – and to achieve that we’ve built custom cabinetry pieces that compliment the rest of the space.  Here’s an installation that we just finished.  It was a great way to use that space and provide additional storage and display space.  And, I love the way the custom grilles not only provide ventilation for the equipment but also add a decorative element.

Vanity and Counter Installation

Things are progressing at a quick pace now on the Castro Street project – and here’s a peak at the counter installation yesterday as well as a preview of the amazing wall of tile.  Can’t wait to share finished photos!

Tile Detail

Very excited to see the tile installation completed and the installer’s attention to detail really paid off!  The clients wanted a traditional subway tile look, and we chose a tile that shows off the natural variation that results from the firing process .  We gave it a little more interest with a beautiful Sonoma Tilemakers accent band.  Notice too the lower field tile is a slightly larger 4×8 than the 3×6 above — another way we added some subtle visual interest.

Landscape Project in Construction

Here’s a small landscape project I did for a client (because isn’t a little San Francisco backyard just like another room?).  The existing deck was at an awkward height above grade, so we decided to do away with it completely.  With the addition of a low retaining wall and flagstone pavers, the space is a lot more functional for entertaining and provides an unobstructed view of the garden from inside.  Finished photos coming soon!

Progress!

Here’s an updated shot from the Castro project – very exciting to have the framing, electrical and plumbing done, and now that sheetrock is up you can really see the space taking shape.  The new hardwood floors are going in too!

Watts and Lumens, Oh My!

When specifying lighting for clients, I always try to provide a high-efficacy option.  Like many others, I don’t care for CFLs, so I’m looking at LEDs.  The challenge is that many LED fixtures aren’t bright enough for some applications, so I have to go back and compare watts to lumens to make sure it’s appropriate.  I found this chart and I’m putting it here so I can remember how many lumens I need!
