How Does the Process Work?

Every engagement with clients begins with a complimentary, informal consultation to evaluate your goals and to get to know each other.  Michael will provide a proposal based on your needs and budget.

Depending on the scope of your project, the process can include:

• Conceptual design – outlining a design approach
• Schematic design – refinement of the preferred design
• Design development – selection of materials and furnishings and detailed specifications
• Construction drawings and renderings
• Budget planning
• Contractor, fabricator and installer resources

Throughout the process Michael pays close attention to local and California Building Codes and always has an eye toward sustainable materials.  The State of California allows designers to prepare plans for permitting and construction for single family dwellings.  Michael works closely with several structural engineers and other professionals on projects that require those services.

Design professionals understand that today’s clients expect designs presented in new ways.  In addition to drafting and preparing construction and permitting documents, Michael specializes in 3D renderings of interiors, landscapes, and buildings; and can provide rapid iterations of 3D or traditional (plan/section/elevation) designs to help you convey design intent to clients, spatial context, and materials and finish qualities.
